Ahead of its world premiere at the 2012 Sydney Film Festival, Transmission Films has released the Australian poster for Cate Shortland’s Lore. An adaptation of Rachel Seiffert’s novel The Dark Room, the film stars Saskia Rosendahl, Kai Malina, Nele Trebs, Ursina Lardi, Hans-Jochen Wagner, Mika Seidel, André Frid, and Eva-Maria Hagen and follows five siblings who are left to fend for themselves after their Nazi SS parents are taken into custody in the aftermath of World War II. Woven into this tale of a nation stunned and in disbelief is an intelligent and subtle coming-of-age story, anchored by the oldest sibling’s complex relationship with Jewish survivor Thomas. While the poster is somewhat reminiscent of the artwork for Here I Am, it pales in comparison. Containing little that stands out both in actress and colour tone, this is a disappointing design for a very promising feature.

What do you think of the poster?

I respectfully disagree, this poster rocks! It sends up the lead character’s allegiance to Third Reich by mimicking a propaganda pose and does justice to the film far more than HERE I AM did. Wicked design and sure to grab people’s attention. Did you notice the Nazi flag in the background???
