MIFF 2011: Critics’ and TeleScope Award Winners

Closing Night already brings us best feature awards.

While the Melbourne International Film Festival only finished yesterday, awards are already pouring out with the announcement of The Age Critics’ Award and TeleScope Award Winner.

The Age Critics’ Award is given to the best Australian feature at the festival, with the panel including Philippa Hawker, Jim Schembri, Jake Wilson and Tom Ryan judging Fred Schepisi’s adaptation of Patrick White’s acclaimed novel, The Eye of the Storm, the worthy recipient.

David Stratton also attended MIFF’s Closing Night to announce the winner of the TeleScope Award for Best New Talent from the European Union. Presented by Festival Scope, the award was judged by six Film Critic Circle of Australia jury members. Markus Schleinzer’s Michael was the winning film, beating out the other eleven films from the TeleScope program section competing for the prize. Saverio Costanzo’s The Solitude of Prime Numbers received an honourable mention.
