MIFF Announces First Glance Titles

Highlights include 'Ruby Sparks', 'Beware of Mr. Baker' and Cannes winners.

After revealing its Next Gen lineup, as well as unveiling The Sapphires as its Opening Night film, the Melbourne International Film Festival has announced its First Glance sample – our first official look at the festival’s general selection – featuring 28 features and four short films.

Narrative highlights include Takashi Miike’s adaptation of the popular game Ace Attorney, Cannes Film Festival winners Amour and Beasts of the Southern Wild, as well as Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris’ long-awaited follow-up to Little Miss Sunshine, Ruby Sparks, and Lynn Shelton’s Your Sister’s Sister, starring Mark Duplass, Emily Blunt and Rosemarie DeWitt. On the documentary side, SXSW favourite Beware of Mr. Baker and Sundance winner Searching for Sugar Man make an appearance, alongside Paul Kelly: Stories of Me, Werner Herzog’s Into the Abyss and Oscar winner Undefeated. And of the four short films, Disney lovers will be excited to see John Kars’ Paperman.

The Melbourne International Film Festival takes place between the 2nd and 18th of August and you can read the full First Glance selection, followed by the festival’s official poster, below!
